Anyone here who has had their medical expiry extended by the VO?

How much was the extension? And did they inform you they were extending it?

I had to complain to get the remed reduced to just a chest x-ray and visit to the panel physician.

Oh dear! I thought that the VOs could extend the medical if the decision was pending only due to medical expiry?

What did you complain and how (if I may ask)?

We all think that because that is what we learn from the CIC Call Centre. That info is not completely correct.

"As you have noted, normally medical extensions can only be made within 15 months of the commencement of the original examination."

"Please be aware that visa officers have no authority to extend medicals on their own. The chest x-ray and visit to the panel physician are required for our medical officer to evaluate the current health of the applicant. Only medical officers may determine medical admissibility. As you are likely aware, tuberculosis is endemic in the Philippines."

These are quotes cut directly from an email I received from the Unit Manager in the Manila VO.

My application process has met delay after delay due to documents lost by CIC so by the time they arrived in Manila there was only 2 months left before the medicals expired. I made it clear to CIC that because their policy to send all required documents at the very beginning of the process unnecessarily exhausted 5 months from the one year validity of the medical. They should extend it or cover the cost for the new one. The response I got was that they would require only a partial remed to test for TB. Not what I wanted but I will keep complaining.

Wow.

It's always funny to read about CIC losing documents. How exactly are documents lost? Do they take them out of the file and give them to 3rd graders to draw on them? What is going on!

But good on you for complaining. We need enough people to complain/comment for them to change their slow lumbering giant of a system.

Thanks for the info. Now I'm worried about my meds which expire in 2 weeks. I thought they'd get their act together by then, but looks like I might be in for a remed. Or they'll give me 5 days to land.

Great...

CIC does not extend the validity of medical results.
In that case, they would ask you to go get another medical.
But wait until they ask you to... several impatient people have gone before they are requested to do so and then they are complaining...

The will most assuredly request another medical so if you are close to expiry I would get them redone and then complain to your MP about the additional costs. Waiting for them to inform you you will wait a long time. In most cases if you are close to expiry they will wait past the 15 months so you have to get the full remed anyway. Save yourself the grief and the wait is my advice.

Yes, my husband's medical results were extended. They didn't inform us they were extending them, we found out when we rec'd our passport request. The date they stated that would be used for landing was January 2014, his medical expired January 2013.

Australia is a first world country that currently has no viral epidemics to worry about. So they would be able to do it as a matter of course unless there was something of concern from the original medical.

Its good to be Aussie.

I was informed of my medical extension by VO on our interview.
I am in 4th waiting week.

same happened with me.
my medicals were expired . and i got gcms notes saying they want to extend it.. and after few weeks i got PPR.
waiting for my passport with visa to be back to me.. then i would get to know. for how long they have extended it... my medicals expired in march 2013

If you are from a visa exempt country in all likelihood the medicals will be extended. The problem is with visa non exempt countries where there is a greater risk of exposure to viruses.

yes you are right .
originally i am from non visa exempt country but since i live in US ... VO decided to extend my medicals

Hi,

We weren't extended, but my wife and step-daughter were requested to repeat chest x-rays only by the Beijing VO. We are at a point 2.5 months after the medicals have expired. I still don't quite get the purpose of this if spouses have this "excessive medical demand exemption" anyhow. Plus, they both passed the first exam, really - it couldn't be extended ??

Does anyhow know the significance of the request itself for our processing ? The VO requested the passports 5 months ago and have held them since. I assume that this time has passed due to security checks. Does the request for x-rays now mean the file is back on track and the medical is the only thing remaining ? I sure hope so......

Can anybody senior comment on this?

Also how long after an extension or repeat of part does it take to process the information and issue COPR?
