anyone had experience in exchanging California DL to Ontario DL ? please share

Hi
I am confused.. If anybody can tell me:

I hold California Driver License (6 months old). which license type would I be getting ? G1 or G2 ?

Acc to the website:

It says under 2 years I need to take ONE road test (the G2 road test)

and under that it says I can drive with my G1 license..
But what about G2 license ?
shouldnt be I getting G2 license ? If I just have one test to go for (to get full)

G1 means I cannot drive alone... But I need to take G2 road test (which means test on highways, streets)... how is that possible ? if I cannot go on highway on G1 license

this all means that I just got waived of written exam (G1 license)?

If anyone can suggest me..

I am just panicking...
I cannot drive alone for almost 18months ! (as I need to get full 2 years driving first in order to give G2 test)

If I am wrong in giving information... please correct me
