CV is request probably may be to check the 'nature' of research that you worked upon.. like anything sensitive or security related. As you mentioned, it could be part of security/background and not related to eligibility or points.

I think so. But there are two points:

1) They also asked for my spouse's CV, and his research is Math, not related to any technology or anything. Why that is requested then?
My guess: because of our country of origin.

2) For people who have done research in Chemistry, Physics, security, and thas sort of things, then they will be rejected for PR?!

Probably due to the fact it is still a STEM research. Definitely there won't be rejection, but may be slightly lengthier processing times due to additional BG checks. Again this is a pure guess.

Computer science and Maths are both part of STEM. I think they want to check your scholarly activity. They may want to run a quick check on the people you have published with, your collaborators, and affiliations. Did you complete your PhD in Canada or anywhere in the West? If not, they may be having a hard time verifying your bona fides as most Universities in the West have online repositories where research theses/dissertations are easily accessible; just speculations though. Whatever their reason is, I wouldn't sweat it; you will get your PR. Good luck.

Thanks a lot. You people make me feel calm. Thank God there are still so many good people like you around:)

oh, I completed my PhD and a research based work in Europe. Although I did my Msc and Bachelor in my home country.
I also did my other research based work in Canada (the NOC for which I got points).

So how long you think the check may take?

I actually have NOTHING in my research or anywhere to hide from CIC, but I am worried that the process just takes too long, which will ruin my life..

I don't think it would delay your application significantly. You know you can call CIC to find out why they need your CV and the time estimate. Be nice to them on the phone and you would get a generic response that would calm your nerves.

oh I didn't know that. What is the phone number that I can call? and will they look into the information in my application to answer me?

From Canada---dial 18882422100 and follow the prompt. You may have to try a number of times during peak period, and be ready to be on hold for like 20 mins (they have very nice music playing in the background :)). They will tell you it's not 6 months yet as per the average processing time. Be nice and not DEMAND a response and you will get something :)

Thanks a lot.
I will wait for a while, say one or two weeks, to see if anything moves in my application. By then I will be more calm and will call CIC.

I am still hoping that they do the check quite fast and hopefully I will see changes in my account before I do anything to get more info from them. Let's hope, because there is nothing bad in my studies, research and work except it is one of the STEM fields that they want to be careful about.

One more question guys: for applicants who work or research in one of those sensitive STEM fields, what CIC may check about them? What will be considered bad about their work and may lead to rejection?

I did my PhD in Canada (STEM field) as well as claimed NOC 4011 for my postdoc work experience (CEC inland). Never received request for CV. I did have teaching experience in my reference letter, as well I was slated to teach some courses in the upcoming term, which was mentioned in my letter.
