seen a lot of families/couples immigrating to Ontario & BC. But just wondered if anyone was going to New Brunswick and maybe we could share some insights etc.

Hi!
We've settled in NB - I've grown up here (sponsor) and Hubby's gone to uni here as well. Where abouts are you thinking? :)

If you have any questions about central NB (Fredericton area) let me know :)

We will be in Moncton to begin with until we can get a little settled, then I'm not sure after that...I'm not really a city person and we have a 7 year old and would really like somewhere nice with a good school.

I have limited Moncton knowledge but I can help!

Moncton is the truly Francophone city - the suburb of Dieppe to my knowledge is almost exclusively French FYI.

Moncton has a casino! And an Old Navy (jealous)! They also have the best amusement park in NB (Crystal Palace) so your 7 yr old will love it! They are also the biggest city in NB so if you're not a city person I don't know how well things will go :(. People are generally nice/accepting of everyone and I've really had no issues with the times I've been there :)

I had thought about going to Fredericton, but don't know much about it. Went there for a couple of hours. My husbands job is in Moncton, so until we land there, unfortunately it's the place we must live in at first, until I can work. I would like to live in other areas, but I don't know much about them and my husband is not very good with change...lol I like small towns/villages as that is the kind of area I grew up in and live now as I really want my daughter to be able to play with friends in her neighbourhood. We had been talking about Sackville as my husband could still commute, and I could hopefully have the option of working in NS as I'm not very good with French, but other than that...

I lived in Moncton for almost 2 years....I worked at the UPS call center and you dont need to know French to work there and there are other English only jobs as well. It is truly bilingual so it is easy to manage without knowing French. Although Moncton is a "city" it has a rural feel to it. It is close to the beach and many recreation areas. Its not like living in a large city. The food is great, especially the seafood.

Not being bilingual does bother me, my background is in tourism, so I thought working in retail and tourism etc, they would expect you to speak both languages?

I have friends that work in retail and don't speak any french. Depends what area you are in.Tourism might be different. its a good place to learn French as everything is in French and English

Thank you. I know a little, from school and tried to learn as an adult, but found it hard as you need the practice and repeating to yourself with a ipod is not really practice as you forget when you are not using the language all the time...luckily my daughter is still young enough to learn in school which is great.

We are also finding it difficult to choose a school for my daughter, I couldn't find any information online such as league tables as to what were good schools. We were going to narrow down where we were going to live by choosing a school, but even that has become a difficult thing.
