Anyone get their Police certificate from the Indian consulate NYC

Anyone get their PCC from the Indian consulate at NYC. My passport was issued in NY so hoping to get it on the same day. But do they keep your passport when you turn in your application? I need my passport for another appointment. The woman on the phone said they would return the passport in an hour or so. Is that right?

They'll keep your passport while they process your PCC request.
There's a designated time slot for picking up your documents/passports, between 11.45 and 2pm or something IIRC.
