Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone who is currently working in Canada can share:
1. Do we need to submit work reference & employment letter? I read a website that the work permit will be sufficient
2. Usually they say CIC will request for work experience in the past 10 years. If you have listed beyond the 10 years will CIC usually also ask for reference letters?
3. Proof Of Funds - Is this required if you have been working in Canada? Again read somewhere it may not be.
4. Since CIC has granted the work visa on a particular NOC code would it mean that you still need to proof it again when applying for a PR via the EE?

Thanks everyone

1 - Only reference letter, work permit is definitely not sufficient.
2 - No
3 - If you apply through CEC proof of funds is not required, if you apply through FSW then yes, you need to show you have enough funds. The fact that you work in Canada is irrelevant.
4 - Huh?

Cheers ;)

Thanks DelPiero
1 - Usually reference letter from the current job or for all 10 years?
3 - CIC will determine if its CEC or FSW right? Or does it automatically go into CEC if you are currently working in Canada?
4 - Basically one should follow the same NOC code that was approved in the work visa right?

1 - Any job in your work history section for the past 10 years you will be required to provide a reference letter. If you're not claiming points for certain jobs and you do not have proof that you worked there I would suggest removing them from that section.
2 - If you're eligible for both you will receive an invitation for CEC. You can even put the required fund to "0" so you're only eligible for CEC.
4 - Can't help you there, I had an open work permit so I could work in any type of NOC.

Cheers :)

1 - Noted. I've been in the same company for the last 10 years. Intra company transfer here. Hehe
2 - I put in the required funds.
4 - Ah ok....thanks

Did you engage in a lawyer to get your PR?

Thanks for your responses. Appreciated.

No, if you put in the work and your application is straight forward you can do it all without a lawyer.

Cheers ;)

Thanks buddy....

My only concern in the work reference writeup but will work on it.

The work permit is not sufficient. This page tells you about what documentation you need. The "Proof of work experience" section describes the information required in the Letter of reference, as well as supporting documentation.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/express/intake-complete.asp

2. Usually they say CIC will request for work experience in the past 10 years. If you have listed beyond the 10 years will CIC usually also ask for reference letters?

IRCC will not consider any work experience older than 10 years.

3. Proof Of Funds - Is this required if you have been working in Canada? Again read somewhere it may not be.

If you apply through CEC, and/or if you have a "valid job offer" / "offer of employment" you do not have to show proof of funds. A valid job offer is not the same thing as having a job. If you have a closed work permit (obtained with an LMIA), you might be eligible. You would also need an offer of future employment from your employer for at least one year in duration, if you obtain PR status.

The definition has just been revised, you can see what IRCC considers a valid job offer here :
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/offer.asp

If you want credit for work performed, you need a letter of reference. There is a big difference between having the opportunity to do work, and actually doing the work.
