When a family comes for the first time to Canada with personal belongings, is there any limit beyond which he/she is subject to pay custom duty? Or, for the first entry there is no limit even to import of gold ornaments etc.? Please advise.

No limit, but has to personal goods and have been in possession prior to emigrating.

Hi PMM,

As I am travelling with my four kids, we are planning to bring items such as Rice, Flour,Cooking Oil, Tomato paste, Pulses, Pistachio, Almonds etc in large quantities to last me for atleast six months.

Is there any website from where I can read the items which we are allowed to bring through the shipping comnpanies.

Many Thanks,
Moazzam

1. You realize that it will probably cost you more to ship those items than it cost to buy them in Canada.
2. See:http://www.beaware.gc.ca/english/brirape.shtml
