Hi All, I was looking to move to British Columbia from the UK in 1973 but I met my future wife and got married instead! However I’ve often speculated that I might have any claim to Canadian citizenship and wondered if anybody might be able to clarify what my status actually is? My Grandfather served in the Canadian forces during WW1 in the Royal Canadian Dragoons and was affected by poison gas and died in Toronto in the 1930s due to its long term effects. His brother was tragically killed aged 19 at the Somme also serving with the Canadian army. My Grandmother met my Grandfather during WW1 in London and returned to Canada with him and had two children, one of which was my mother who was born in Toronto in 1925. Upon my grandfather’s death my Grandmother returned to her family in the London and my mother lived out the rest of her life here in the UK. She was still proud to consider herself a Canadian but despite having a Canadian birth certificate she only ever had a British passport, so I assume she wasn’t technically a Canadian citizen. I feel I’ve got strong emotional ties to Canada and although I have no current immigration plans (in spite of Brexit!) I just wondered if anybody had any views on my eligibility for hypothetical citizenship!
