Hello to all. I am in need of help. My husband and I want to sponsor my father-in-law but our combined income as of the moment is not enough. We have an aunt who is earning very well. Can this aunt be added as a co-sponsor? Can she submit an affidavit of support saying she is willing to co-sponsor for my father-in-law sponsorship? Will this be accepted? Because as of now, we do not meet the financial requirement.

Also, we are three on the family, me, my husband and my daughter. If we add our father in law, we will become four. Is the financial requirement for sponsorship for only the 3 of us or do we have to meet the requirement for the 4 of us already?

I would really really appreciate a response. Thanks in advance. I learned that it takes a total of 5 yrs to sponsor a parent and so we want to act as soon as possible because my father in law is not getting any younger. I would really appreciate any info any of you could give. Thanks so much.

1. Nope only you can be the co-sponsor of your husbands sponsorship of his father. You need to meet the LICO for 4.

No, your aunt can not be a co-sponsor. The only case where a co-sponsor is allowed is where one spouse co-signs for the others sponsorship of a relative such as you co-signing for your husbands sponsorship of his father to count both your incomes.

You will need to meet the income requirements for 4 people.

Right now, it takes 3 years to approve the sponsorship in Mississauga and then the file goes for processing at the visa office responsible for your father in law's homeland. The processing time at the visa office varies between countries but you can see them here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/08-fc-parents.asp

Oh that is so sad to know. I guess we will just have to try harder to earn more so we can sponsor asap. Thanks so much to those who took the time to reply.
