I'm in the process of applying for my study permit! I will be attending school in the Niagara region, so I will be relatively close to the Buffalo border. My home in Pennsylvania is an 8 hour drive, so I'd like to be able to see my family once in a while. Have any americans with a study permit crossed back in to the states during the duration of their issued student visa? Will it be a problem? I'd just like to be able to visit my parents for a couple of days here and there.

You can visit them anytime without any hassle. :)

Good Luck.

Make sure to always bring your passport and study permit. You may want to bring your current schedule as well as they as receipts for fees paid, just in case you get a grumpy IO one day.

The IO can pull up your study permit if you forget it, but it's much easier on him/her for you to have it already. So if you forget it, don't sweat. Think of it as making their lives easier. You may also want to apply for a NEXUS card. There's some qualifications, although I'm not sure what they are.
