Hi, I got my PR middle of 2017 and was looking forward in sponsoring my dad until I saw the income requirements. I have a family of 5 members and the requirement for last 3 years has to be above $77k annually. I do not understand why is income the only factor for consideration ? Noted on the financial burden on the government but shouldn't the financial status of the individual be considered? If the person to be sponsored is financially independently, shouldn't that be a bonus point? My dad is a retiree with a decent amount of asset. He is still energetic and very affluent. Speaks and write good English. When he lived with us during our first year in Vancouver, he was very active in social work like volunteering in the community clubs. He even obtained awards from the community for excellent contribution. He made so many new friends here but he was only allow to stay for 6 months. Now that we finally get our PR, out dream of sponsoring him got shattered by the income requirement.
He is currently living alone in my hometown. Not only can he live with his family, it will also be of great help looking after domestic matters when both my husband and myself are at work. I have 3 children and having a grandparent at home will certainly lessen our burden, thus we can be more focus in developing our career here.
I am hoping to garner some support from the like minded community so that CIC can hear us. I am not hoping for a change overnight, but at least they will gather some feedback from the ground and make some informed decisions.Their decision on these requirements will certainly impact my family and I believe to many of you too.
Any comments and feedback are welcomed!
