Hi there everyone,

I can finally apply for Canadian Residency as I meet the requirements under the new rules. My concern is that I have since returned to my home country for almost a year now and my job in Canada ended at the end of October last year. Am I still eligible to apply before the end of this month although a full year has passed without me working in Canada?

Please advise?

Thanks in advance

Okay to further clarify my query, I came across this information below, however I did not see this on the official website. I just want to ensure that I did not "miss" it or misunderstood! Please advise, thanks in advance.

Q3. I meet the requirements to apply under the CEC program but have since returned to my home country. Am I still eligible to apply under the Canadian Experience Class?

ANS: Yes, but you must apply within one year of leaving your job in Canada. If you left your job more than one year ago, your work experience is not recent and does not meet the requirement.

Given that it's now November, I suspect that you have missed your opportunity. CIC works with "days" and if it's more than 365 days since you left your job.....

Where did you get that information from? It doesn't look right to me - always always check the CIC website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/apply-who.asp

You can apply as long as your 1 year experience was within the past 3 years. So if you completed 1 year in October 2012, you started in October 2011. So you're fine to apply

That would have been true under older rules, but not the current ones. As others say, go by the official CIC website ...
