My IELTS scores are:

Overall - 7.5

Writing - 6.5
Reading - 7.5
Speaking - 8
Listening 8.5

However, as per apply-factors (I am not able to add links here :( )

Since my writing is just 6.5, I think my CLB level dips to level 8.
Therefore, the total points that I would score here is 5+5+5+5 = 20 points.

Canadian post-secondary degree or diploma for a program of three years or longer, or equal =21 points.

My work experience is between 5 to 6 years. But there’s not score for that period. Assuming that I will fit in the 4 to 5 years category, I will have 13 points here.

Age is between 18-35 = 12 points.

Total = 20+21+13+12 = 66 points

Am I right in the way I calculated my score. I think I am not eligible :(

Just go to this link, answer the questions, it will calculate your score: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

Thanks for the link. I am having a score of 390. Improving my ielts scores would improve things significantly.

All the tools and tables are so scattered across the site. And inconsistent too.

Will someone hire foreign workers even before getting a visa? :o

The second poster confused you because he pointed you to the CRS tool when you asked about the FSW score.

Your calculation for the FSW score is not correct.

You need to calculate each IELTS sub-score separately: For example, look up the CLB for your listening score, then find the correct FSW score in this table:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-factors.asp

Do this for all IELTS sub scores. Then add them together. That's your language score.

The rest of your calculation seems accurate.

As for CRS scores, you are correct - having CLB 9 in all sub-modules makes a huge difference to your score. As does having "2 degrees or more" or better.

You can check this page to understand how CRS scores are calculated in detail:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/grid-crs.asp

Your chances of getting hired before being in Canada and without a visa are very close to zero. Exceptions are if you have an existing relationship to a Canadian employer who knows and likes you, or if you have a specialised skill-set that is in short supply in Canada. But I guess you'd know if that was the case.

You can only post links once you have more than 20 posts.

So I still don't understand why they have a row for each CLB level. Wouldn't it be easier for them to just say that if your sub score is so and so, then your level is so and so? Now I am not sure what CLB level I am on with my following IELTS scores:(

Overall - 7.5

Writing - 6.5
Reading - 7.5
Speaking - 8
Listening 8.5

First, forget the overall score. It is completely irrelevant to CIC. You must look at the scores separately.

This table will help you find the CLB for each language score:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/language/charts.asp

Scroll down to where it says "International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General Training – Test score equivalency chart"

Look up your scores and find the CLB level:

Writing - 6.5 - CLB 8
Reading - 7.5 - CLB 9
Speaking - 8 - CLB 10
Listening 8.5 - CLB 10

Then go to this page and calculate your score for FSW:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-factors.asp

Writing - 6.5 - CLB 8 - 5 points
Reading - 7.5 - CLB 9 - 6 points
Speaking - 8 - CLB 10 - 6 points
Listening 8.5 - CLB 10 - 6 points

Your FSW score for your first language is 23 points.

Whoa. I didn't read it this way at all. Thank you so much. I don't remember reading anywhere that it has to be calculated like this. I calculated the score based on my least score, which is writing, and the CLB level of that row.

If this is how much I score, I think I will end up with:

Therefore, the total points that I would score here 23 points.

Total = 23+21+13+12 = 69 points which makes me eligible. Thank you so much :)
