I've been dwelling on this recently and it is starting to cause me anxiety. Basically I am sponsoring my wife (with no dependents) who is a US Citizen. Regarding the Identity and Civil Status document requirement, she does NOT have a US birth certificate because she was not born in the US. Her family immigrated from South Korea when she was young. What she does have is only an English copy of her old Family Census Register which is the household registry used at the time (which I believe has since been obsoleted in favor of a newer document). This document was originally used by her family to immigrate to the US. Some people suggested getting that new document from Korea but her family left Korea long time ago and are not even Korean citizens anymore so I'm not sure if they could even get the newer documents. Called up CIC and explained it all to the agent on the phone. He said to include that old document and a copy of her Certificate of US Citizenship (which is granted by the US govt to people who become naturalized citizens) and a cover letter explaining it all. So that is what we did. Submitted the application awhile ago. now I am getting all anxious that her Identity documents are lacking.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has any experience with submitting alternates to a birth certificate (especially from the US).
Thanks!
