Thank you.
1. It took almost 2 months from end of May to end of July. After I removed my representative, I did not have any access to my refugee claim. I don't know about %% of completion. However, my advice is that don't rely only on your representative, especially if it is an immigration consultant... From my experience and what I came to know, most of them don't care after they receive their fees. Many of them don't know or are not willing to actively engage.. For them, you are just a number. I learnt this the hard way. My representative told me that he KNEW better than me, when I kept asking him to contact IRB.. It turned out that he did not know.. or he did not want to take things further.. He simply did not bother or care if it took me 1, 2 or 10 years..

2. Frankly, I don't know. However, from reading in this forum and my own experience, IRB will identify a case as Less Complex maybe within 6 months of case referral to IRB. Maybe this is tentative, considering the HUGE backlog IRB is handling.

Good luck.
Thank you for your response
Actually my fess completed last month (updated on ircc portal+confirmed from IRB) and claim was reffered to IRB in April 2024.
Request for early hearning schedule submitted through lawyer. No response yet.
After clearing fess is my case still in backlog or we can expect hearing now?

It is very good that FESS is over. The issue now if your case has not been not identified as Less Complex. This means that it could probably require a full hearing. With the huge backlog, it could take ages to set a hearing date :(

Maybe it would be useful to contact IRB every 3-4 weeks to check for any update...

By the way, even for cases initially identified as less complex, it may ultimately end in a short or full hearing...

Good luck!

Hello everyone.. I hope that you are all doing well..

I submitted my refugee claim almost 3 years. My file was referred to IRB in Nov 2023. IRB advised that my case was eligible for the file review process and asked me to submit my evidence for a possible determination without a hearing (less complex process), which I did by end of 30th Dec 2023.

My case is still pending the completion of the front-end security screening (more than 28 months since it was referred to IRB).

I've called IRB 4-5 times over the past few months. Every time I would be given the same response: No update, we (IRB) are still waiting for the completion of the front-end security screening. One IRB officer suggested that I send a webform to IRCC in an attempt to push things.. I did. IRCC replied to me confirming that my file is still in process.
I have an immigration consultant. Last time I contacted him was maybe over 3 months ago, he says that he cannot do anything.
Are there refugee claimants like me whose cases are stuck pending

Is there anything that I can do to get the front-end security screening to be completed?

Should I continue to call IRB on a weekly basis?
Should I continue to send a webform to IRCC like on a monthly basis?

Can I contact CBSA & how or any other security-related organization to try to get an update?

Please advise & guide ? i m in stress & depression

Thank you all.

Hi there,
I understand your situation because I have been in this situation before as self represented claimant from a war-torn country.
Based on my humble knowledge and experience, the IRCC and in particular the IRB itself has no control over FESS or can intervene with the process.

1. The FESS is carried out by CBSA, CSIS and other security agencies like RCMP etc.
2. CBSA is responsible for informing the IRB of FESS completion.
You would know this completion either by contacting the IRB, requesting ATIP notes or checking the status on IRCC portal.
3. Since the IRB selected your claim to be processed under file review process, they can not finalize your claim until all conditions under file review process for less complex claims are met (including FESS completion) otherwise they can schedule a short or full hearing for you.
4. There are various reasons of FESS delay, could be your background (security, criminality, military service, etc.)
5. Most FESSs are roughly completed between 6 months to 1.5 year for refugee claimants.

What I advise is to contact CBSA for follow up on your FESS, Try the following:

Write to CBSA generic email: CBSA.Asylum-Asile.ASFC@CBSA-ASFC.gc.ca it might help,
you must write at top of body message:
refugee application number (found in your brown paper)
full name
phone number

and then explain your situation.

I hope this helps you
Regards,
