Hi,

I'm getting ready to move back to my intended province from Quebec. I was just wondering whether it matters if I get my SIN card from a Quebec service Canada versus Ontario in the mean time.

Thanks

Doesn't matter, as it is issued federally. SIN# remains the same everywhere.

The first digit in the SIN tells where it was issued. Not a problem.

I beg to differ on this, the first digit doesnt tell you where it was issued but under which category as any SIN that starts with "9" belongs to TWP category.

Hi,

zardoz is right, the first digit for the SIN tells in which province you was issued(for example in alberta it starts with 6).
as for the 9 that is only for TFW.
it does not matter where you apply for SIN,as said before its federally issued.

Hi,
I just wanted to know what is the legal time line by which we need to get the new SIN after landing?

I have another question, do I need to apply for PR card after landing or they will post it to my address?

Thanks
Ravi

You can apply for a SIN at any time, as long as you have it before starting work. PR card will be sent to the address that you give when you land. Takes about 68 days at the moment.

OK..I have a valid temporary SIN till november, so is it safe to continue with that SIN even after landing?

Just go to a Service Canada location, it will take 15 minutes for a new SIN. With the "9" SIN, employers are expected to ask to see your work permit. Work permits are invalid when you become a PR.
