I want to know how much time is the PR valid for from the time its issued to you, until you have to enter Canada, is it six months, one year, three months, anyone have any idea? Does it vary for each person?

Are you referring to the visa you get before you get your actual PR status when you land? It is supposed to expire along with your medical, though my expiration date was set about 5 months after my medical expiration. :)

Validity of PRV
The validity of the PRV (Permanent Resident Visa) will be "endorsed" on the same. U have to "land" on or before that date.

Is it 6 months, 1 yr, 3 months...
That'd depend on when u got your PPR & subsequently the stamped visa. As others have opined before - it's linked to 2 things:
1. One Yr from the date the Meds were done, OR
2. The Passport Expiry date of u, or any accompanying member.

Thus, an eg.
12/3/2010 -Meds done on
18/6/2010 -PPR issued on
03/7/2010 -Passports sent on (they weren't expiring for 3yrs)
18/8/2010 -Passports with PRV received on
11/3/2011 -PRV Expiry date

In this example, u've received a PRV which is valid for 7 months approx, from the day u "received" them.

I hope u understood the concept now...

Good luck !

Mine expired months after my medical expiration date, but years before my passport expiration date, so it's not that simple. I think it's safe to say that nobody truly knows, but it's likely to be in the range of months.
