Dear All,

I have a basic question that, After getting Canada PR, is it possible to apply for USA work permit? or do i need to wait till i get canadian citizenship? or not possible at all? has anyone tried this?

Please suggest, any inputs will be welcomed..

Thanks

If you want a US work permit then you first have to find an employer in the US who is willing to hire you.

Having Canada PR or even citizenship doesn't change this fact.

If US is your goal, start there, not Canada. Although there are certain perks to being one in the other's country - like NAFTA jobs, and 6-month stays rather than 3-month ones - working in each country requires permission from that country, not the other! Being a US citizen is not a route to Canada, and the same thing applies in the other direction.

You need H1 if you are a pr. citizens can go to US and work with a TN visa. its easy. many people do that. Canada is a gateway for US

TN visa still requires finding an employer first.

it does, but it is a lot easier and more preferable by the employers. For bigger companies it might not matter that much, but if you want to work at a start up, they wont have the budget to get you H1 visa.

that shows some mentality... even after getting pr people wants to go to US on work permit....

typical attitude.

work permit will not give you rights and medical benefits which you will get it on PR.

PR == green card of US keep this thing in mind...
i know you people have larger community in US.

but H1 is tough. try your luck in April 2016 buddy :P :P :P
for 65k quota almost 220k applicants this year for H1b....

better to go on TN once you are citizen of Canada...
still you need an employer in US to do all this things....

No big deal. People get Canadian citizenship and settle in US. Coz, job market in Canada is not that great, and now this country is officially in recession.
So going to US after getting citizenship is a good move

ok..

so canadian citizenship is necessary to get US entry, that you mean to say? or it will work on PR also.

Thanks for guide :)

No - Canadian citizenship has nothing to go with getting entry into the US. I have been a Canadian citizen all of my life and this doesn't mean that I am allowed to move to the US or work in the US. AGAIN, if you want to work in the US - you need to find an employer in the US and you also need to obtain a US visa (even if you are a Canadian citizen).

scylla , Thanks for reply :)

how can one find employer in USA, having canada PR.? pardon me, If I ask basic questions..
I can get TN visa right?

Please describe if any process is there to do it.

Thanks

just pick a country you want to live in and go research what you need to do to live/work there on the relevant website

Coming onto a canadian immigration forum looking for a 'backdoor' into living/working in the US is stupid.

The process of finding a US employer as a PR is no different than the process of finding a US employer if you are not a PR. You have to look for jobs online and apply for them. There is no short cut or secret. It is very hard work and there is no guarantee you will be successful. Many employers won't even consider your application since they don't want to hire a foreign worker. Just because you have PR and find an employer in the US doesn't mean you will be approved for the TN visa - there's always a chance you will be refused.

Lets say you apply for candian PR under CEC class - or none if you have FSW etc

1 year to gain CEC eligibility (ignoring LMIAs & job offers at this point)
2 months to get all your paperwork together
6 months to apply for PR and go through the entire process (assuming you are approved)
4 years to gain citizenship eligibility
up to 1 year to process and obtain citizenship

So there you have it, at least a 5 or 6 year shortcut to getting a US TN visa

good luck

Thank heavens you said this! I am American, and must apply for Canadian PR just like anyone else from anywhere else. I don't know how people get it into their heads that these are not sovereign nations, friendly but separate from each other!
