Hi I've just started my spouse visa application and wondered if there was a time limit to enter the country after being accepted. For example my wife had 30 days to enter the UK once her visa was approved.

It would be helpful to know because the processing times are so long its hard to plan your life a year in advance.

many thanks

For spousal sponsorship for PR, the CoPR expiry date is usually one year from the date of your medical. Are you using the new package of forms introduced 15th December 2016? If so, then they will ask you for the medical when they are ready, you can assume a CoPR expiry date 365 days from the date you have the medical.

Yes we're using the new forms. What is CoPR? Do you mean I would have to enter a year from my medical? How quickly would they ask me to get one? It might be hard to say due to the newer system. Would getting my PR card be a case of entering to get it then could I leave and return? Im just making sure because I have a year left of my PhD in England.

thanks

COPR = the approval paper, also known as the landing document. this is what is used to land as a pr.

yes, you can enter canada to land then return home to finish things up. this is called a "short landing". note you do not get your PR card at landing, you receive PR status. CBSA will send an application to the care processing centre and it will be mailed to you at a later date. it will need to be mailed to a canadian address, and you are required to give one at landing for this purpose. the address can be a friend or family member who is willing to mail you the card once they receive it. Immigration will not mail cards outside of canada.
