After becoming Permanent resident, is there need for visa to come back from home

I have a question:

As we know that PR Visa is stamped for a year from Medicals date. Once somebody becomes PR and gets his/her SIN, PR Card etc and go back to home country so does he/she has to apply for "return visa" to come back into Canada even he/she has alreay gained status of PR?

No need because you will have PR and you can travel anywhere in and outside Canada.

Thanks for your answers. But I heared somewhere that even as a permanent resident if you go back to home country and wish to come back you have to take an appointment at canadian consulate. What about after expiration of this PR Visa's date? This stamped PR Visa is valid till one year from medicals and after this expiration can you come back from home country without any further stamping just because you have that little plastic card called PR Card?

If you remember Nix1's blog, he mentioned about COPR documents being stapled on the passport.

So, you are going to have two evidences - COPR Documents on your passport and Plastic Card (so called PR card) in your hand.

I believe that suffices to travel back to your nests (home country and Canada) back and forth.

You just have to show your PR card along with the passport. It's the same thing here in the US with the GC.

What is wrong with your timeline you got AOR back in february and medicals in october? or this is british versus american date style which is messing with the date numbers?

Really, all you need to travel is the PR card and passport. You don't need a visa to go to Canada anymore.

If you leave Canada right away after you land as a PR, before your PR card comes in the mail, because you don't have the PR card, you would have to apply for a PR travel document at the Canadian embassy where you are.

To renew the PR card after 5 years, you need to be in Canada at the time and you can not have been outside Canada for more than 1095 days in the 5 years before you apply. There are a couple of exceptions to that last bit, one is if your spouse is a Canadian citizen and you have been outside Canada with your spouse. Another is if you have been sent/transferred to another country by a Canadian employer. Another is that your spouse is PR also and has been sent/transferred to another country by a Canadian employer and you have accompanied your spouse.

Your renewed PR card will not be mailed to you, you have to go and pick it up at a CIC office.

Technically, I can move without a visa. However, what will be my status at the end of 5th year ?

Actually, at the end of year 3, you will have technically lost your PR status because you have not met the residency requirements for PR but immigration is not watching every PR and where they are at every moment so they will probably not know that.

When you arrive in Canada with your PR card after 4 years, the immigration officers will ask you how long you have been outside Canada as well as some other chit-chat. If they have a suspicion that you do not meet the residency requirements, they may challenge you to prove them wrong and then they will let you in for 60 days to give you that chance. If you fail to prove them wrong, you will lose your PR.

If nobody questions your PR status when you enter Canada and you get in, your PR status can not be questioned while you are in Canada unless you apply to renew your PR card.

At the end of year 5 when your PR card expires, you will be a PR in Canada without a valid PR card. If you apply to renew your PR card at this time and write the truth on your application, that is that you don't meet the residency requirements, you will lose your PR. You can appeal this and they can keep you waiting for a long time and then say no anyway. If you lie on your application and say you have been in Canada for 730+ days, you might get away with it but if they catch you, then you are in trouble. If you wait until the end of year 6 to apply to renew your PR card, then you will meet the residency requirements again and they will have to renew it.

This was the dilemma which was confusing me with other things, Thanks leon! What is wrong? AOR is earlier than medicals request, I think it is normal. Am I wrong?
