Hi everybody,

I have two questions regarding the affidavit that has to accompany a translation of documents to the CIO:

1. I am looking for a translator in the UK, who also does affidavits but it seems that all the translators I contacted have no clue what I am talking about. :( Can anybody please give me information on how they got their documents translated in the UK?

2. I have about 6 German documents that need to be translated. Do I need one affidavit per document or is one affidavit for all documents enough (if I have all the documents translated by one company)?

I hope somebody can help because I am quite frustrated and struggle with the translation of my documents.

Dear Michaela,

I think I got your question. You have to approve your all the translated documents by making affidavits of all the documents. You should go to a good lawyer or registered law person according to me.

Regarding my case, I went to the lawyer to approve my birth certificate which was translated by me.

In short you have to make affidavit/approve each of your translated documents.

Hope this will help.

Regards,
Yash

Michaela,

According to my suggestion, you can translate your documents from German to English if your English is good. There is no need of going to them for translation. And it will be cost effective as well.

But for the approval/affidavit you have to go to them.

Thank you for this information. But what if I go to one translator and he gives me one affidavit for his translations, which might include 6 of my documents? If I get one affidavit per document the costs become very high and I am not sure if it is necessary or required to do so as the translator can swear that the translated documents are true translations.

Also, the translotor needs to be present for the affidavit so I cannot go with the translated documents to a lawyer because I did not translate the documents. Also it states clearly in the "Instruciton Guide" that no family member can translate documents, it has to be an accredited translator.

Can anybody help clarify this situation for me? Any help is appreciated! :)

Miki27,

its enough to get only one certificate/affidavit from translator stating that the translations are correct.
Pls make sure to include the list of all the 6 docs in the above certificate/affidavit.

That's what I thought but I just wanted to confirm. :) Thank you for this information!

Is anybody here from the UK, who can refer a good translator to me, who does affidavits?
