So I have an open work permit that is valid until December of 2020. (Currently going through common-law sponsorship with my partner.) I was employed for a year on a different OWP until I lost my job (nothing related to my OWP expiring or anything like that, just a shortage of work), so I have been interviewing with other companies over the passed few weeks. Out of curiosity, for those who have gotten jobs while on an open work permit, when is the appropriate time to disclose that you are on an open work permit? During the interview or when you are offered a job? I'm finding it difficult to find work while on the open work visa that isn't through a staffing agency, and I had a very promising interview yesterday that would hire me on permanently but I did not disclose during the interview that I am on an open work permit. Has anyone dealt with difficulty getting employers to hire you while on an open work permit? How did you handle it?
