advice required for complicated case of PR renewal

I am in very bad situation, PR expired 5 years back and now I applied PR renewal through lawyer he applied 1 year back and he sent me receipt of payment of application and then another email after 6 months that CIC asked for color copies of PPs. Then sent me other letter from CIC that to wait till june 15 saying that still your application is under process.But I could not see my application status online. I don't know why. but now no response or contact from this lawyer. Can I contact directly to CIC through email with reference of CIC letter for my status of application. Can I check my status by calling to CIC if yes is there any contact no of CIC from out of Canada. I have CIC letter. But i don't know these letters are original or not and I m out of Canada. I want to shift to Canada for my children education. We are in short of days for RO.
Please advise. I will be thankful please

It was a mistake to apply to renew your PR without meeting RO. This pretty much guarantees a refusal.

How many days of residency in Canada did you have during the five years before you applied to renew your PR?

Did you have any humanitarian & compassionate reasons for failing to meet RO? Did you mention these in your application and include evidence to support these statements?

I wonder if the "lawyer" submitted a completely truthful renewal application with all the absence declared... It's strange that they are no longer communicating with the OP.
