Dear All,

I will be starting the 6th month of pregnancy in Ocober 2011 i.e. by the time I land for the first time in Canada. I assume, I will have my OHIP before I deliver, and during the waiting period I will be covered by a private insurance. I will bring with me all the test results and medical history of my pregnancy from the doctor in my country to present them in Canada.
My question is: should I just approach the nearest hospital/clinic to the place where I will be staying (e.g. in Halifax, NS) to do the regular check ups?? Is there any other info I better have on this matter?
Please, any advice will be of big help.

If you are going to live in Nova Scotia, you will not have OHIP because that is the health plan in Ontario. You will get first day coverage in Nova Scotia so no need for private insurance, see http://gov.ns.ca/health/msi/moving_travel.asp#2

I think it is a good idea for you to start by applying for your health card, then look for a doctor.
