Hello All,

I am single 34 year old Canadian citizen female. I have just adopted a 10 year old orphan boy in India and want to bring him in Canada with me. Can anyone guide me what will be the process in which I an bring my adopted child in Canada.

Thanks Buletruck for the link. I called few licensed adoption agency in Ontario and they said that I shouldn't have adopted the child directly by myself in India and should have followed Ontario province procedure of adoption where the procedure is different and the adoption I have done now will be considered null. I am not sure if this is infact true or I can still bring my son here.

Hello everyone,

Can anyone please help me answer mu query above?

Thanks

I would recommend you speak with an immigration lawyer if you are not sure about next steps. This is a more complex situation and none of us here are lawyers.

It’s unfortunate that you didn’t explore with a Canadian lawyer before adopting abroad. Are you currently living in Canada?

Yes I am in Canada right now.

You really need to be working with a lawyer familiar with international adoption. Unfortunately this isn’t going to be a very fast process. I know that some orphanages want children to leave as soon as they are adopted. Normally this process is done while coordinating the international adoption not after the fact so there will be longer delays than typical international adoptions.
