We have a friend who recently got to canada on a 2 year work permit and are living in Toronto. They have a 3 year old child and are willing to adopt another one in canada. What are the steps to start adoption process considering they are looking to adopt a new born child.

Any site or link would be helpful to guide them in right direction.

it would provide no benefit in any future PR application if that were the reasoning and suspect might take years for the process.

that is not the reason, if that was they would just have a kid in canada. Adopting or having a child, both are same in sense of immigration, just gives you a canadian born child.

think your friends may not realize that adoption is a long and expensive process and that there are only so many newborns available for adoption. If they are considering adopting internationally, which seems like their only option at the moment, they should meet with an immigration lawyer first or an international adoption agency. Canada doesn’t allow adoption from certain countries.

Apologies if taken as implying anything but as you can imagine so many people still seem to think that having a canadian child gives them any rights for immigration. Maybe once the child reaches 18 and they can sponsor the parents but until then zero benefit. Also some people over look even if they give birth in Canada that when they return with the child to their home country the child will in effect be a foreigner.

From your reply obviously not the intention of your friend.

Immigration is not the same for biological children and adopted children. There can be quite a few differences. If they want to adopt a family member that is another whole topic and unless both parents are deceased it is usually not possible.

They are talking about adopting a child in Canada or having a child in Canada. As the poster said, the immigration process is the same in either situation because there is no immigration due to the child being Canadian.
