Hi, this is just something I've been wondering about. I can't see myCIC for clues.

We had an additional document request on the file for 1) marriage certificate (long form) 2) FBI 3) payment of Right to PR fee. Everything was sent out as of last Wednesday via mail. I'm glad it all got in before the potential Canada Post strike!

Does this type of request typically slow down the processing of a file? After sending in the items, how long does it take them to actually attach the item(s) to the file? Do they typically pick it back up again fairly quickly? Our office is Ottawa.

Also, do document requests/request to pay right to PR fee (it was deferred) typically come BEFORE or AFTER eligibility/criminality/health is complete, or is that dependent on the visa office? I've read some articles saying the request for the fee typically means you're close to DM, but they were a few years old so I'm not sure if that's still true or not.

Thanks. :-)

it may or it may not. some people see movement quicker than others. either they will continue processing as soon as it's received or they will wait for the "due date" listed on the request to pick it up again. no one can really tell you for sure as it depends on the actual officer who is handling your file.

for visa exempt applicants being processed in Ottawa, generally the RPRF will come at the same time as the passport request, which is generally a copy of the passport. if PPR is waived - it will be requested alone. it's generally the last step before official approval and suggests all other eligibilty has been completed. The file can't technically be "approved" until the RPRF is paid. Once that's paid, more than likely status will change to DM and the COPR will be put in the mail. However, with the risk of the Canada post strike, some applicants have DM first then receive instructions from Ottawa for sending a self-mailed envelope for the COPR to be sent, so you may find the request comes with these instructions as well.

Thanks so much for this information! I hope they don't wait to pickup the file - they gave us 90 days to send the FBI. Hopefully that's not the due date, lol.

Hearing that generally they ask for RPRF once everything is completed/passed is great news. I assume they needed the certificate and FBI simply because it's required for paperwork purposes, which is why we didn't get PPR or CoPR at the same time. At least, I hope!

I would be more than happy to send them the self-mailed envelope for the CoPR now that Canada Post has threatened to strike as of Sunday again!
