I'm trying to sponsor my wife. She is in Québec with me on tourist status. The sponsorship application asks for a joint lease, but it's nearly impossible to add a visitor who can't legally work and must leave Canada before the lease ends. I am from the US and she is from Honduras. We met after I submitted my PR application so my PR was approved without her. She accompanied me on a visitor visa while I did my PR landing and we told the border guard that we intended to get married right away and we did so. We have never held legal residency in any common country so having a joint lease was never possible. Although things started as an online relationship, we lived out of Airbnbs often once borders reopened and we've spent considerable time with each others families. It's not a problem obtaining the cards, electronic messages, photos, family declarations, etc...but adding a visitor to utility bills and leases is very hard.
Has anyone successfully done this?
The Canadian Bank did add her with no problem, the US bank refuses unless she goes back to the US which she cannot do and Hydro-Quebec finally added her without a NAS but it took a while and I had to pay 25$ to get them to do it. Vidéotron told me only one person can be on an account as a payer so they would only add her as a "mandataire" meaning she is authorized user but her name will not appear on the bill.
