Sorry if this is a repeat question but I can't seem to find anything about my issue in the forums so far.

I am an Australian currently in Canada and will be submitting my application under the CEC in the next couple of weeks. I intend on adding on my boyfriend as common-law in November when we can prove that we have been living together a year. I have spoken to the immigration office and they say that it is fine to do but couldn't give me much information however, does anyone have any experience in this, and faced any problems? Up until what time in the process can I add him on? And does it lengthen the visa processing time?

He is from the UK and his working holiday visa expires in July 2015, and he currently does not have any way of applying for PR with his current job so this would be our only option to stay in Canada together without me sponsoring him after my PR came through.

Also, if he is accepted on my application can he apply for a bridging visa? Or would he have to go onto visitor status/leave the country until our application was finalized?

Thanks for your help!

You can add him anytime before you you land. I will also say to be on the safer side, add him to your file as soon as possible. It will definitely lengthen the application processing time. By how much? No one can tell you for certain.

Please see this link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=199&t=17.

He will get an OWP based on your WP. If you do not have a WP, he might not be entitled to one as he is not the principal applicant. Bridging WP is only meant for the PA.
