Thanks for reply in advance. You guys always help.
My friend just got citizenship certificate. Going to apply first Canadian passport.
He want to add surname to his new passport because he has full name written in first name section of indian passport.
He just want last name on Canadian passport which he never had on indian passport.

No. I have of legal name change also. Dont know what proofs required. Have to change name on Canadian ids or not
Check online for changing name in the province you’re in. For example, in Quebec , one cannot change the name until after becoming a Canadian citizen .

Legal name changes
You must apply for a new passport or travel document if you’ve changed your name legally. You need to include all the required documents for a new adult general application (adult travel document application for non-Canadians) and pay the full fees.

You will also need to include one of the following documents issued in your new name:

  • your Canadian birth certificate or
  • your Canadian citizenship certificate

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/change-name.html

They may allow to split the name. Worth a try.
