hi guys,

I am an expired COPR holder, considering marriage by year-end, I just received the much-awaited ultimatum email, what I want to know is currently I am single and the application would be processed as single .. once I get the COPR and say have validity till March or April 2022, what is the process I should follow and any idea like how long would it take for them to re-issue the new COPR once I declare a change in family composition.

Thanks

You need to submit a webform with spouse passport, marriage certificate, medical and photo. IRCC will revert with some more documents (if required) and once you submit those, spouse will be added to the application.

Its a long process, sometimes it takes months...

You are not married yet... so I dont believe you will have enough time, after December.
IRCC is already very slow and responding and processing applications this year...

The best advice would be to land as a PR first and then get married and invite spouse on Visitor Visa, then apply open work permit (inside Canada) and then Spouse Application...

Thank you, I understand that the best course of action would be to land first and then bring spouse in visitor visa, followed by open work permit that would allow her to be with me and simultaneously apply for Spousal sponsorship .

Exactly. Dont mess with IRCC these days, you will be hit by a backlog. Just my opinion.

Thanks a lot, it makes sense, I was considering the visitor visa as one option but wasn't sure how long i can renew it and wasnt aware of the eligibility to apply for open work permit

Hi there thanks for your insights on this topic -my partner and I are not in a rush to move to Canada. In fact, a delay would be beneficial so my partner can finish his Ph.D. program in the US. Is there anything other than the current IRCC delays that would make you recommend going through the visitor visa/open work permit route? Thanks!

Apart from Covid delays, IRCC is fast processing inside applicants... So once visitor visa is approved and the applicant is inside Canada, everything will work at light speed...

My husband has added me to the COPR as well. We sent them a webform regarding the same and they’ve sent us the add-on web forms to declare me as his spouse along with the getting the pcc from every country , birth certificate, fee payment etc. we’ve applied for the pcc as well. We also applied for a visitor visa in the meantime and I got it for 10 years. Wanted to know if inland spousal sponsorship is better or wait it out until we receive both our COPRs. We are currently residing in US.

The spouse Visa takes more time, so better wait for COPRs. IRCC has a new portal and things are moving faster these days...
