I wonder if anyone can tell me if a 2 year IEC working holiday visa (POE letter) can be activated at a Canadian border on a few days trip in and out of Canada, so that a person can return next year to start work. Basically to trigger the visa and return later in the springafter to actually work?

Yes.

Thank you for answering. Sorry but another question.....would St Johns airport, Newfoundland (YYT) be big enough to do this IEC visa, i.e. would they understand what it is etc?

Any international airport is fine.

Just remember even with a short trip to activate you must be prepared to show travel insurance from the date you activate through to the end date plus access to 2500 CDN.

If you do not have travel insurance for the full term then your IEC permit will only be issued to match the insurance term. If you have no travel insurance when you try to activate then the permit will not be issued.

Also important to read the terms of any travel insurance given some policies have specific conditions about extended trips back to home country that can even void the policy.

Basically you have to treat your activation trip as though you were staying even if that is not your plan. Once you have your permit you are good to come and go subject to the usual CBSA entry assessments.

Those are all really good points especially about the type of insurance policies which let you return home as many times as you like, many don't!
Trip now successfully done.

hi there, i need to know an answer. i made an IEC application in september 2018 and the pool closed in october 2018. do i need to make a new profile to enter the 2019 iec or the older application can still count and will be put through the pool?

Um I think you have to do a new one unless you were called of course. But do let more experienced people than me advise you please. Good luck

Others can comment as I understood it any profiles that were in a previous years pool are discarded, not carried over year on year so you would need to create from new to enter the pool again.

1. You are correct, the pool is not carried over from year to year.
