Accepted for IEC last year and only have 4 months left to enter Canada to activate visa. Need help

I was accepted for IEC and I had a year to go to Canada and activate it and receive my 2 year working holiday visa, the problem is, I only have 4 months left to get to Canada and I may not be able to get there, not long after I got my POE my Father got extremely sick and we had to delay our plans, now it isn't looking good for him and I am worried that I won't be able to make it within the next 4 months and I will miss out on activating the IEC and I can never apply again.

Is there anything I can do about this? Will they give me any sort of leeway if I contact them about this situation? or am I out of luck?

Unfortunately IEC is a use or lose it program so doubtful although guess you always try a case specific enquiry but would not hold out for a positive response. As I see you are from Australia not exactly a cheap option to do a short return trip to activate which would have been the other option.
