Hi guys,
I'm from Turkey and currently working in university as a research assistant. I don't know if you are familiar but the current political and social environment in Turkey is not good. And it does not seem like it is going to be better.
My question is this:
I'm having my phd on Communication field; I'll start writing my thesis soon.
Do I have a chance to get any assistantships on this field in Canada?
I'm a married guy. Would assistanship salary be enough for me and my wife to maintain our life? (until I get a second job and/or my wife gets a job?
Also, in the future, would having an assistanship in a university give me any advantage to be an immigrant?
Thanks for the answers.

Canada doesn't have as many post-secondary institutions as somewhere like the US. Given that you are just finishing your PhD it may be hard to get a teaching position right after your PhD program. Your educational achievements may make you eligible for immigration so I would look into that and you could contact communication departments in colleges/universities to see if there are any opportunities.
