Hi,

I have a question regarding my obligations as a PR in Canada.

My common law sponsored me to get my PR. We both have a lifestyle that involves traveling around the world. It is mainly for studies (we are both yoga teachers and students) and also for private gigs one on one with clients. And also as tourists.

I am aware that I have to remain in Canada for X amount of days to not lose my PR but I also read that If I am with my common law and sponsor during my absence of Canada it should still count as days in Canada.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can confirm or explain the details of this exception or point me out towards a solution for our needs.

Kind Regards,

thank you Bs6,

So just to be sure I am understanding this correctly. As long as I accompany my Citizen common law (it does not specify the reason for being outside of Canada) I should be okay regardless of the time spent outside?

thank you

Yes any time spent with a common law citizen outside of Canada counts towards the residency obligation. It doesn't count towards citizenship, that requires physical presence in Canada.

How many days do I need in Canada for Citizenship?

Citizenship requires actual physical presence in Canada, 3 years in the 5 years preceeding an application. You can claim upto 1 year of that prior to becoming a PR at one half day for each complete day. The main thing though is physical presence in Canada.
