about NOC code...help

while filling the form "Schedule 3", we provide NOC codes for the occupation in Skilled worker application.

i worked as a "Graduate Research Assistant" equivalent to one full year and my duties were related to IT professional.

my question is, while entering the NOC code, should i enter the NOC code based to matching Job title OR it should be by matching job duties and then selecting the appropiate NOC code ? because the NOC code for "graduate research assistant" title is different than the IT job codes like for "computer and information system professionals" on the NOC list.

Example:
Graduate Research Assistant: Noc code= 4122
computer and information system professional: Noc code: 217 or 2173 or 2175

Job titles are not uniform so when in doubt, go by the job duties.
