This brings us a little closer to self administered oath:
https://canadagazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2023/2023-02-25/html/reg1-eng.html

The regulatory amendments are expected to come into force in June 2023, and as such, the costs and benefits of the amendments are estimated for the period from 2023 to 2032.
Under the regulatory scenario, clients who opt to take the Oath digitally via a secure online solution without the presence of an authorized individual would save up to three months of processing time, becoming new citizens faster than those who opt to take the Oath at a citizenship ceremony.

Self administered oath would truly be the best just like virtual tests. If we can write the tests online without being proctored then I'm sure we can administer our oaths or they can give an option of the ceremony to people who like the whole stretch and detail. I'd wanna e-sign my oath and keep it moving.

They really should implement this ASAP! As someone who experienced an unusually long delay in getting an oath invite after everything else had moved to Completed, I am still suffering from the consequences of the delay, which forced me to postpone or change plans for another year. Maybe they could still offer the option of a live ceremony for those who would like one and are not in a hurry. It's somewhat like graduating from college, where it's traditional to have the graduation ceremony, which the vast majority of people go through, but most schools also give you the option to receive your diploma in the mail.

Just a thought, it would be good for many of us to actually submit a comment to this consultation to make sure they do not withdraw the proposal for self-administered oath... there have been several newspaper opinion columns attacking this proposal. They do not seem to be much aware of the realities on the ground - they wax poetic about how moving the citizenship ceremony is, apparently ignoring that it is mostly on zoom now anyways and the new proposal still offers a possibility of the ceremony to everyone who wants it. and no thoughts given on how undue delay can mess up with our lives in many ways... but if there is a deluge of negative comments inspired by those columns, they may scrap it...

you can leave a comment directly on the Canada Gazette page below (before March 27), it would only take a few minutes - and you can either put your name or even do it anonymously! https://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2023/2023-02-25/html/reg1-eng.html

Done! I hope as many people as possible, including those who have already gotten citizenship, will submit a comment. I am still suffering from having to postpone plans for a year that I would not have had to do if I had not suffered an inordinately long delay in getting scheduled for oath.

Anyone know if they approve it? I can’t find any news about this
We still have to wait for the public comments to be reviewed on the proposed regulation change. Once they are reviewed, the comments will be published. After that, if there are any further changes/amendments made to the regulation, they will be made. Once that is done, it will be published in the Part II of the Gazette of Canada. Once, it is officially published, the regulation will then go into effect at the proposed date described upon publication. So, keep watching the Gazette for notifications :)

Once comments are finalised, it will show up here - Closed Consultations with Comments Published:
https://www.gazette.gc.ca/consult/consult-orcs-eng.html

See the infographic for the "Regulatory Process" here:

I hope we can self-administer Background check, citizenship test and LPP otherwise what's the point? :)
What’s the big deal of self-adm oath when they also provide inperson ceremony option? I understand your sarcastic comment on Lpp
And BC. LPP and background checks need other countries database access so you provided logically invalid sarcastic comment. Hahah:D;)
