Hello!

My family and I would like to move to Canada ASAP from Japan.

Someone told me if i apply for her PR outland that would be quickest, faster than a spousal sponsorship. Is this correct? And a really dumb question but where can i find the documents for PR application. I found some for spousal so far.

I'm Canadian and my wife is Japanese. And we have two youngs boys who have their Canadian citizenship papers and Candian passports. I have family in the area in the BC interior where we would like to move to.

Thanks! Any help or a direction would be much appreciated.

What other category would you apply for her PR other than family class (spousal)? Express entry or other economic categories?

If she can get an eTA and be admitted as a visitor at CBSA entry point, you can do an inland application for a spousal sponsorship. Otherwise, you have to apply outland. Both are taking approximately 12 months at this point in time. However, the inland route means you're in Canada while the processing is taking place - she just has to take the appropriate steps to keep her status valid.

If you apply outland and then come to Canada, be aware that there may be interviews required in Japan.

Both inland and outland are spousal sponsorships - the words simply refer to whether or not the person is applying from within our outside of Canada.

They have their prons and cons and outland is usually faster, though it seems the gap is shrinking these days.

Thanks for the reply! I see, so the PR is together with the spousal sponsorship. Sorry, someone told applying for PR was faster and that go me confused.

Have you filled the digital spousal sponsorship form before? There's one part about the co-signor's (my wife) status in Canada and it won't let me select anything besides 4 options (canadian by birth, by descent, naturalised, PR), all of which does not apply to my wife. If left blank, it flags that cell and won't let me validate. Any thoughts about that?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for replying to this thread and for the explanation!

Same question as what I asked Monkeys89...

Make sure you're filling out the correct forms. Did you get your application package from the official site and used all the info so that you get the package specific for your application?

There should be no form that asks if the applicant is Canadian or PR since they're just now applying for a PR - it makes no sense. Please double check your forms.

Wait a minute, co-signor? Your wife can't be a co-signor since she's the applicant. She has no status that would allow her to co-sign for someone's PR. This is used if, for example, you were sponsoring other family members, like her parents. So then she could sponsor them and you would co-sign on it to give it more weight.

Your wife is the principal applicant, you are the sole sponsor, there's no co-signors.

That's what I thought, so I've been scratching my head about it. Seems like the right form. Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking. I'm looking at the Sponsor Document Checklist and it has the same form named as a requirement.

I think I'll just print everything out and write in N/A.

Thanks np08!

Please check my other reply. Your wife cannot be co-signor on her own PR application.

Additionally, forms that have validation must be validated so that you get the barcode pages. You can't just print them out. Once you validate, you will get barcode pages at the bottom of the document and these are very important.

There's only one form that has validation and no barcode pages, but I can't remember which one off the top of my head. Might be Schedule A, but don't take my word for it, better to wait for someone else to confirm.

Oh!! Thanks a lot! Thanks for noticing that point. I was filling out the form and I thought co-signor would be her since...she also needed to sign something...that's my seemed-clear-at-the-time-but-flawed logic there. Yeah, it doesn't make sense that the sponsored would also be a co-signor for herself. Thank you for explaining it so clearly!

No problem. If you come across other things that don't offer options that seem like they should be there, just go back to it and double check. The forms are created in such a way as to minimize mistakes, though there are outlier situations that don't fit the form parameters.

If you're stuck again, the forum is here with its abundance of information on the application process.

Thanks for clearing that point up as well. Got it! I need forms with barcodes.

You wouldn't happen to know what type of dependent (A, B, C) my wife and children classify as, would you? I've been looking for what those 3 categories mean.

That's great advice! Thank you!
