A bit morbid but...death of primary applicant before landing

Does anyone know what happens in the below scenarios:

1. Primary applicant dies before landing. Can spouse and kid still get PR somehow?
2. Primary applicant does soft landing and obtains PR. Spouse and kid don't. Then PA dies. Can spouse and kid still go for landing?

1) no for sure
2) sounds tricky. Might be okay I think. Meaning that dependents may be able to get PR, but not sure
