Hi,
Just wondering how is stay period for visitor in Canada calculated.

For example, Does it count for total number of month stayed in one calendar year regardless of if the person went back to his/her home country for couple months and came back?

Also, If you are on a visitor visa and then go visit your friends in US for couple days and come back to Canada(all within 6 months), would 6 month clock reset?

Thank you for your response

It does not work like that. There are no 'in one calendar year' considerations.

Each entry is assessed as for a new authorized stay. Attempting to visit too often and/or trying to live in Canada when the person is a visitor will result in the entry being denied/restricted length of authorized stay.

Whether the person is allowed back in or not will depend on the CBSA officer at the POE. If one wants to stay for longer duration then it is advisable to apply to extend the stay instead of going on day trips to the US
