6-day TPR issued in the past. What now?

Hello friends,

I am new here and this is my story. 6 years ago I was a foreign student in the US. I wanted to see Canada, so I drove up to the border. Before that I checked visa requirements, my home country did not need visas. At the border I found out that only those who have biometric passports can get in without visas and my passport was not biometric.

I guess I must have seemed a trusted person (already admitted in the US) so the officers at the border suggested I pay a fee and they would issue me a special short-term permit. I agreed, visited the country and after 6 days I left Canada, back to the US. Forgot the whole story quickly.

Now, that 6-day permit which I still have in my passport reads "Temporary Resident Permit" and I can see that it has 8-digit Client ID number filled in. Am I supposed to use that number in my Express Entry profile (and in eAPR once granted)? I can see that this number creates quite a confusion here. Is it assigned once for the whole life, or every time one deals with CIC they get a new one?

Finally, it seems that only those who are currently in Canada would use it. So, can I safely ignore it, as my last time in Canada was 6 years ago?

It's a unique identifier for you and it won't change. You should use that number in your application. Doesn't matter whether you are in Canada or not.

Thanks. So the fact that I had Client ID assigned in such peculiar circumstances, is this a negative thing?

No. You entered Canada legally so there's nothing to worry about.
