I think it depends on the skill.. I was applying for Mainframe programmer.. Mainframe Programmer in Vancouver is not Marketable.. I mean because most IT jobs are being outsourced to Asian countries.. So that may have been one reason why I was not considered...

But still, I have been sending out my resume.. who knows i might get lucky this time.. :-)

There was one forum in here that posted the links where you can apply for canadian jobs.. i'll search for it and post it here :-)

What language/mainframe apps do you use? I think Toronto would have a better market for IT jobs.

sir albert_alo have u also received a kit from the state ur applying....coz i got one last may may kasama po mapa, magazine and a calendar...nu po ba next ko matangap after that?

Hi Job_Seeker,
I was told that i would have better chances in Toronto. However, in my FSW applilcation I indicated that the city i'll be landing in is Vancouver.

Is it ok to look for jobs in Toronto even if my application is for Vancouver?

And to add, my skills is mostly into Financial Services... Banks (Asset Management, Trust Portfolio, Deposits, Customer Information)

It does not matter what province you land. It is FSW anyway that you applied to and you would be bringing in funds with you :). Anyway, what mainframe languages did you use/are you using?

I think you are right job_seeker, zsashimi is not a provincial nominee and lifestyle in vancouver - too high. a friend landed last feb 2010 in vancouver she only got a job last week.

Those are as unfamiliar as Greek to me. Seems like mainframe computer programming belongs to another lifetime :'( :'(

Hahaha.. We thought that mainframe programming will become obsolete by year 2000.. I was ready to shift to another platform but then again, because of financial institutions like banks mainframe was very much alive.. :)

Need to rehash then (will probably take me 5 years to do that, and by the time I re-learned, probably it would be obsolete :), what with the trust in handhelds and nano technology). Yeah you're right, banks and schools still have mainframe and there was one consulting firm in Richmond or Burnaby (forgot now where) that still have mainframe and COBOL is the language they were using. But Toronto have more opportunities even if it's not as mainframe prog but as COBOL prog or SA/Prog. Let me know kung may makita ka at mag apply din ako hehehehe.

A friend from the Philippines also applied for PR sometime in 2005 (he's a financial analyst with PNB) and there's still no news with his application.

I found one in Vancouver last May.. Unfortunately d ako tinawagan.. Prior sa pagpunta ko ng Vancouver, I sent my resume along with the cover letter stating that I'll be in Vancouver during that period and that I am not yet legally allowed to work in Canada but I do have an existing FSW application.. I even called the company (kaso busy ang line).. Then I received an email saying that they only process qualified candidate and those that can legally work in Canada.. :(

Is your friend still in PNB or did he transfer na? I could not resign from my current company kasi hassle to procure all the employment certificate as well as the experience letter

He is still with PNB, main. He has been to Canada several times tough, for visits. Wait it out. Malapit na yan. I read somewhere that processing is over 5 years. Employers don't want the hassle of applying for the LMO (unless nagtitipid). There was one post whose offer was 2CAD per hour, so of course Service Canada refused the LMO, salary too low. Toronto has more to offer programmers though. Have you tried there?

Never tried to apply to Toronto.. I tried to work out with the company if i can do an office transfer.. they can if and only if there's an opening, i procure my own visa and the client i am with is from canada.. kaso current client ko is US.. My aunt invited me to come to Toronto last May kaso i only have 3 weeks vacation sa Vancouver kaya wala rin oras.. plus akala ko d pwede apply don kasi nga Vancouver yung city na na-declare ko

Is it advisable for us (5 yr application) to get CAIPS? A friend in canada can get it for us. Any views?
