But timing is crucial. You must start the registration application process 2-3 months before the finalization of your immigration application. Because once they give you the eligibility, they will only give you one year to sit for exams, otherwise eligiblity is nulled.

True.

As far as I know, and please correct me if I am wrong, in Ontario and in BC, you need to be a landed immigrant to apply for registration. But in Manitoba, they will register you even before coming to Canada as long as you will give them all the needed requirements.

Not the case 5 months ago as we were able to apply for registration in Ontario with the CNO and we are based overseas. However, I have heard stories lately that they started asking the applicants for proof of citizenship or landed immigrant status.

One thing is common among all the provinces, CRNE, LPN exams has to be taken in Canada. There is no way to take it outside of Canada.

So true.

Are u saying that a 2yr diploma in nursing is not qualified in canada? it has to be bsn?

Yes. Only those with BSN can become a nurse in Canada. WHat about Associate degree in Rn?

what about LPN? can u be eligile with a lpn diploma?

to become an RN? NO.

NO thats not what i meant .. i know LPN is qualified to apply for fsw because it os on the NOC . BUt i need to know the process of LPN rgistration in canada is it the same?
how do u take the test in canada if u wont be able to go there til fsw is approved? wat is the real process? get certified there first then apply? if yes how do u go to canada and take the test if u dont have visa etc yet ?

If your FSW is not approved yet and you do not have a tourist visa then there is no way for you to get the exam.

In my opinion, I think it is better if you wait for the approval of your visa first before you apply for registration with the nursing council as your eligibility to take the exam has an expiry. But if you have an existing tourist visa, you can apply for FSW and registration with the Nursing Council at the same time.
How can i apply for fsw or pnp without rn/lpn Canadian certification. I though u need those first before you apply. BY the way dont have canada visa

You do not need to be registered in Canada as an RN/LPN to qualify for immigration. As long as you are an RN/LPN in your country with at least one year of continuous experience and you meet the required points for immigration then you can start your application. Read the CIC website. You will learn all the requirements there for FSW application.

all the above posts are very true.licensure for rn's and lpn's are only done in canada.its true that some territories like ontario need proof of landing first before they start processing licensure but for manitoba and alberta, one can start applying for eligibility before landing.

a 2 year diploma in nursing will not qualify as RN in canada.LPN maybe yes, granted that ones curriculum of a 2 year diploma is comparable to canada's LPN program.in worst cases, even if your an RN and yet not comparrable to them, one maybe pushed to do bridging programs, assessments and supervised works.

im on process of my immigrant visa under fsw and personally, i prefer to start application for licensure while waiting for visa for me to work immediately for 6 months upon landing while waiting for licensure exam.

i know that sometime 10 years ago, nclex is honored in canada but not for now in any of canada's trritories.

im also an nclex passer.its a sad thing though that alberta wants me to verify license in california and yet dnt want to honor it.but, we cant do anything about it, that's their rule.

Can anyone confirm if it's true than once you obtain an RN license in one province that it cannot be endorse right away to another?
Say you got your license in Manitoba now and you want to transfer to Ontario, is it possible to do this or do you have to wait for a certain period of time?

CarribRn,

So true.. But it's not as stringent as it is than with someone who has no license and experience from anywhere in Canada. Actually that is my plan. Get license in Manitoba, work there for at least 2 years, then aim for the license either in BC or Ontario, then transfer and retire in one of these provinces....Dream....dream...dream..!!!Haha!!

Aspire,

I am asking because I am also contemplating now whether I should lodge an application in Manitoba. It's me thinking ahead just in case Ontario decides not to approve my application as an RN. Problem is, when I get to Canada I do not want as much as possible to do the renting thing again (for the house or apartment). I have wasted too much money already paying for the house rent as I am renting here in Cayman also. It would really be lovely if I can get my own house right away. And this would not be possible if I will have to temporarily work in Manitoba for a year or two first before I can move to my final destination, which is Ontario.

*this is me talking as if I have the immigrant visa already* lolz! :)

I guess I should wait first for the visa before I worry about these things. :)

Yup. I started my application for registration with the CNO in Ontario. Still waiting for their final decision whether they will allow me to sit for the exam or if they will require me to do a bridging course first prior to taking the exam. Might start doing the Manitoba too as a back up.

mdarji and aspire,
i thinking on two options now between manitoba and alberta. i like manitoba just having this one problem of sending some forms to employers and letting them send it directly.im having hard time because i leave far from my previous employers.

aspire, did your wife really gave the forms to her employers and let them send it directly?

alberta application is quite easier for me to comply.im giving myself till this week to really decide.anyway im still preparing second set of documents for local visa center.

mdarji, have u submitted full docs to your local visa office?

hi aspire,
ur a nurse too?does ur wife works there too as a nurse and is having same lenght of experience?i only done bedside nursing for a year back in 2004, worked as clinical instructor for a year also and im currently working as nurse instructor/lecturer for NCLEX and CGFNS. d kaya manitoba and all other territories grant eligibility to take licensure based on actual bedside care?im kind of worried and also not very sure with what to write in the form that asks us to document our actual nursing practice for the past 5 years.do they mean actual bedside nursing? or do i include my teaching nursing subjects as well?

anyone may also comment...
