If I complete MEng in ECE which is 16 months course (12 months study and 4 months project)... how long would I be able to work there?
Is there a way to get a 3 year work permit ? maybe by taking another course or something?

Hi,
If its 16 months course you will get 16 months work permit. If you want 3 years work permit you have to study in Canada for at least 2 years. Yes you can take another course just keep in mind the total sum of course time (on school's website) should be 2 years minimum. Avoid taking courses online.

Keep in mind that a Calendar Year is different from a School Year. A school year is 2 semesters of 4 months each with a 4-month break in between (typically). However, your safest bet is to take one which specifically states that it is a "2 year course". Otherwise, it could be subject to different interpretations.

Is your course a trimester one, i.e., you complete 4 semesters in 16 months? In that case, it is equivalent to a 2 year program and you are eligible for a 3 year work permit. However, your university must state explicitly that your 16 months program is equivalent to a 2 year one in the letter they will provide you upon graduating to apply for PGWP; otherwise you'll only get the 16 months.

You should contact your program co-ordinator and international student services for more info. Also get in touch with recent graduates from your program to know how long is their PGWP for.

Hello everyone! My pgwp was just approved but they only gave me
16 months work permit. I took 2 post secondary programs with 1 year duration. Can I appeal for cic to change their final decision. They taught each of my program is only 8 months each. Please help.

Check with your school Immgration advisor. You can also check the description of your program on ur school website. If it’s a 2 year program, u qualify for a 3 years WP. Otherwise, ur 16 months WP is correct.
