Just got my scores for my 2nd attempt in ielts, scored 8 speaking,8.5 listening,6.5 writing and 8.5 reading, what are my chances of having an extra 0.5 in writing

File a recheck you will get it.

I got 3 points less in Express Entry because of 0.5 less in Writing.

I am getting almost 50 points less because of the 6.5 in writing instead of 7

Then I would say you are wasting your time if you are giving it for a re-check. Just prepare better and re-take the exam. That is what even I am going to do. Because you do not know whether the re-checking will go in your favour or not. Uncertain path. Giving it again and scoring better however, is in your control.

Try google ielts-simon.

His blog is very helpful and I got 7 for writing in my first test by following his instruction and reading his samples, though my speaking was 6.5.

I applied for remarking and failed, and will give a second try on August 20th.

My score will also rise by ~50 if I can score 7 for speaking.

Best wishes for both of us and all the test takers.

ask for re-evaluation. you will surely get the 0.5 and your money paid for the claim

If you are confident that you have done well in Writing, then go for revaluation/remarking. I think, you will get a 0.5 increase as your other module scores look really good, writing score if not the same should be close to other scores. Please note the whole process would take around 8 weeks and will cost you close to 50% of the actual test fees. If your score changes, you will get your money back.

Wolverine17: Many disagree on this forum about the evaluation of IELTS. For sure, it is deliberate to assign 6.5 in writing.

I my case it was miserable IELTS evaluation..LRSW; LRS scores for me was always great; Thrice reappeared. Got 6.5 in writing. My heart aches!!!

I would have got an ITA / PR by now. :'( :'( :'(

I too ielts twice so far first time i scored speaking 6.5 reading 8.5 listening 7.5 and writing 7 i applied for a re evaluation but the scores not out yet because i was severly underscored in the speaking, second time i scored 8.5 listening 8 speaking 8.5 reading but 6.5 writing

Try Mike Wattie's book, everyone I know who prepared using his book got min 7 in writing. I personally didn't like Simon's site, cause I didn't have time to go through the whole web site. Good luck!
