You can be put on a waitlist if any cancellations come up. That isn’t the same as requesting an earlier hearing. There aren’t that many cancellations but sometimes things happen like asylum claimants getting sick. Assume that there have been some last minute cancellations due to omicron which may be why they have made the announcement.

Timeline
Applied July 10 2019
Referred August 2019
Case schedule October 2021 (postpone, officer never showed up)
Reschedule April 2022.

it depends on your lawyer availability, how backed up IRCC is and how long it takes you to submit all evidence.

Hello,

Do all refugee claimants wait 24 months from the IRB referral date for their hearing to be scheduled as stated by IRCC?
It takes longer sometimes I'm afraid.
Mine took 44 months.
Claim made in July 2018 in Montreal.
Had two postponed hearing dates (2 March and 20 March 2019 respectively) due to administrative reasons.
Had my hearing in March 2022 and got my decision on the table.
You can't really trust the timeline as I know people who have had theirs pretty quickly.

The hearing was actually bad. The board member focused a lot on my previous addresses in my forms from the border which I couldn’t recall. I guess my story and evidence was clear and met his criteria
