do you know why your file was non routine?
I can only speculate as to what it was that caused it. The form with my employment history had a gap in it so they asked for me to resubmit it. Apart from that there was nothing else out of place. But again I can only assume, don’t know for sure.

When did you apply?

I have a friend that is waiting they applied May 2022..I didn’t know people where still waiting from so far back..it’s really an awful feeling.

Since I hope people want to understand why wait periods are so long I will explain. Canada had a huge surge in asylum seekers and refugees starting around 2017. That has lead to a huge volume of protected people and refugees applying for PR. Canada has a quota of how many PRs they approve every year and refugees/protected people and their families have a portion of that yearly quota but Canada prioritizes economic immigration and family sponsorship of spouses and dependent children or citizens and PRs. The wait times were already increasing due to the volume of applicants but as Canada tries to decrease immigration levels the yearly quotas have been cut leading to longer processing times. This will likely get worse until Canada can/if reduce the number of protected people and refugees. Canada has paused certain refugee programs abroad but that will not likely have a significant impact when it comes to processing times.

I didn’t ask you to explain. Next time start you own post. Everyone has a right to express frustration regarding the wait times. Giving the same information on everyone post and in every thread does not make you an expert. I see you commenting the same things everywhere. In the future when you see me post something don’t reply to it.

Happy to report that on April 24th, 2025 we finally received the Portal1 email; sure would be interesting to know how a security check on one individual takes over a year to complete. That's a complete a headshaker. I did reach out to the new minister in charge of the IRCC, but perhaps just coincidence that our file was finally accepted perhaps 10 days later.

how did you reach out to the new minister in charge? :)

Given the election there is zero point in reaching out and in general it is not an effective way to get anything done. After elections if your application is not experiencing normal processing compared to others would reach out to your MP.

You literally said you didn’t know people were waiting for this long. If you were aware of the issues the processing times shouldn’t have been a surprise.

The fact of the matter is do not provide unsolicited information. I didn’t ask you anything. The person that is waiting since March is definitely not because of the processing times..so you, spewing your usual “advice” again, was unsolicited!!
