Hi all,

I have recently received and ITA and amongst getting all the documentation prepared, I have realised that I am shy by two weeks of 3 full years of foreign work experience.

Will this go through ok or I am going to land up with a rejection?

I cannot lower my CRS score as I only just had enough for the invite

Submit your app after 3 years of work experience. Make sure your reference letter is dated also after you got 3 years.

I am currently in Canada, this is for my foreign work experience. I would have to return back home and find a job to do this.

would they count extra weeks from the Canadian work experience? As I have 4 years skilled work experience all together

IRCC doesn’t round off experience. Check the CRS grid, I can’t find points for mixing Canadian work and foreign work to gain 1 year. You can only add two or more Canadian work experiences to complete one year. But not with foreign work experience.

don’t you have other foreign work experience you can use?

For IRCC purposes you can only count full years (52 week periods of full-time work [FT=worked 30h or more each of these 52 weeks]) to claim points. No points will be awarded based on partial years.

In your case, 2 years (104 weeks) and 50 weeks of FT experience will only grant you points for 2 years. You cannot claim points for 3 years like this. You can attempt to apply being short 2 weeks but you will most certainly, and rightly so, end up with a refused application given that your CRS will fall below the cut-off.

Also, foreign experience is based on continuous years of experience. As someone already mentioned, it is not possible to add multiple experiences to complete full years. That is only valid for Canadian experience.

Sorry, there is really nothing you can do about this now.

You should either go back to the pool and hope for the score to go down, or acquire more Canadian experience which will bring your score up a year from now (provided your age doesn't affect you).

Thank you for your detailed explanation. I figured that would be the case.

The reason why I am short is that I believed I already had the 3 years experience. I was doing the role before the paperwork shows that I was officially doing it. I can get my previous manager to explain this, would they reject it or does it give me a fighting chance to claim the 3 years?

Thank you for your response.

I do have other foreign work experience, however it’s not skilled experience to give me that extra points. I will check though to ensure
