2 year return requirement

My parents immigrated to Canada 1.5 years ago. They had to go back home to take care of personal matters. Father got sick and has been in and out of hospital for the last 1+ year. My question is that there 2 year will be coming up in June 2019 requring entry in Canada. Can I get an extension to this 2 year rule? Appreciate any help. Thanks

The residency requirement is 2 years out of every five. If your parents immigrated 1.5 years ago, they technically have another 1.5 years they can spend outside of Canada.
