LANDED..........
Prinicipal Applicant Landed 14 May. The rest of us landed on 2.9.2013
It has been 2 months since we landed at Edmonton on a beautiful September afternoon. After a 20 minute spell in Immigration we stepped out into 30 degree heat! What a welcome.
We stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn overnight and went to Lloydminster by bus the next day, which was a bit of a nightmare as the bus was full and squashed.
After meeting up with my husband whom I had not seen for 4 months I went on a brief tour of Lloydminster in the glorious sunshine.
The next day we registered the children in school and prepared to head away for a Camping trip. I also got a job that I had inquired about before I left Ireland! Totally amazed by the beautiful scenery and lakes that where on our doorstep. They sky was full of stars! What a way to begin a new life.
So our first few days was over and it was time for the children to go to school and hubby to go back to work. I registered for my SIN and got application forms for Health card and Child Tax Benefit.
I went car shopping and believe it or not got offered another job, which I took as the hours and the money were better.
Fast forward to now......
It has gotten really cold in Ireland terms -15 which I am told is nothing and 12-20 cms of snow is forecast for the weekend.
I love it here! It is just so laid back and everyone makes you feel so welcome. Our accents are a source of curiosity but it has helped us settle in and make friends.
Don't get me wrong it isn't cheap. Bread, milk and cheese are expensive but meat is really cheap compared to Ireland/UK
To buy a house is cheap but to rent is so expensive because of the Oilfields.
Petrol is so cheap, currently $1.08 here.
The three children have settled in at school and are doing so many different things they would never be able to do like Driver's Ed and Welding etc.
There have been so many firsts to mention.
I hope that everyone settles in as quickly as what we have.
